Atelier on the Meadow
Inland villa · completed
The brief
A working atelier and small residence for a painter, set on a south-facing meadow. The brief: north light for the studio, south light for living, and a building that recedes into the landscape from any approach.

Design narrative
The plan resolves into two perpendicular bars. The studio bar runs east–west, opening a long northern roof-light over the working wall. The residence bar runs south, ground-coupled and shaded by a long timber eave. Between them, a single courtyard collects winter sun and frames the only view back to the road. The palette is restrained to three materials — board-formed concrete, oiled cedar, and a single black-steel roof — chosen so the building reads as a continuous surface in the long meadow grass.
